Globe High School has been named a winner in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights $5K Fridays sweepstakes, receiving $5,000 in funding — and putting the school in contention for a grand prize worth $1 million.
Globe High School Athletic Director Talmage Hansen applied with hopes of restoring Harbison Field, including repairs to its cracked track, uneven playing surface, poor drainage, failing lights, outdated locker rooms, and accessibility needs. The upgrades would create a safer, more equitable, and more welcoming space for students, athletes, families, seniors, community walkers, and residents who rely on the field for competition, exercise, healing, celebration, and connection.
Friday Night 5G Lights is a nationwide program supporting small-town high schools and celebrating the communities that rally around them. Globe is one of 10 Arizona high schools selected so far for the weekly $5K Fridays sweepstakes, bringing the statewide total awarded to $50,000. All winners —
including Globe — are now in the running for the grand prize.
This year, more than $8.4 million is up for grabs nationally, including $25,000 for 40 finalists, $250,000 for four division champions, and $1 million toward a football field transformation for one grand prize winner, to be announced Nov. 12.
So far, 49 Arizona high schools have applied, and there’s still time for more to join. Eligible schools in communities with populations under 150,000 can apply through Sept. 18 at FridayNight5GLights.com. Weekly $5K Fridays sweepstakes winners will continue to be announced through the end of September, and as the competition moves forward, communities will have opportunities to rally behind their schools and vote.
